Ive always really admired the use of technology in art. Over the years Ive slowly been collecting old Apple monitors, computers, and obsolete doodads and gadgets with screens on them. I think these are more interesting now than they ever have been, considering we have found a way to merge all of these feats of technology into one, small handheld device.
I also find a great deal of irony in the modern smart phone; considering all of the scientific advances our society has made, we choose to use it to watch hours upon hours of mindless, shallow, internet media.
We have seen so much media in the past decades, we hardly even blink when we see a human being, horribly injured, or leave a minute to take in the mundanity of the world we live in. I chose to show a continuous feed of deadily car crash videos, and dential surgeries, along with a video I make a couple years back highlighting average, everyday occurrences people often miss. I also added some "satisfying" TikTok sand cutting videos as a joke, and to give people a comforting, well deserved break.
In addition to this, I added a live camera feed to bring light to the every day surveillance we take for granted. wether you are in your home, or out in a busy mall, there are cameras everywhere we go, to the point where we are never truly alone. Many of us choose to look past this, writting it off as though it has no true effect on our personal life, but when we can see what the camera sees I feel as if it has a much different interpretation.
During the actual show, I found it funny how many people didnt realize the camera was either turned on, or that they were watching themselves on the monitors, as it blended in with the rest of the overwhelming flashing screens.
